In the heart of the Premier and Grand Cru the Maison is proud to own 20 hectares of the most beautiful vineyards of Pinot Noir on the territory of Mareuil, Ay, Mutigny and Avenay, all magnificently exposed to the south and placed on pure craie, and the ancient and famous vines of the "Clos des Goisses" and the "Lèon". The vinifications are the most natural possible because the good oenology must be very little interventionist. The fermentation temperatures are fresh, but not too low, in order to preserve a natural aromatic expression. The malolactic fermentation is carried out at the end, except for very powerful wines, the dosages are always low, so that the sugar can not mask the balance between freshness and vinosity.
The Philipponnat champagne house was created in 1910 in Mareuil-sur-Ay. It all began with April the Philipponnat, an ancient 16th century owner of Ay. In 1935 this Maison acquired the Clos des Goisses, an independent wine cellar dedicated to the production of a single wine, today renowned all over the world. At the end of the 90s, Philipponnat joined the Boizel Chanoine Champagne group under the impulse of Charles Philipponnat, the current director of the Maison.
